CBD To Help With Anger Management
Anger is one of the most basic emotions for humans. The American Psychological Association explains anger as an emotion characterized by antagonism toward someone or something you feel has deliberately done you wrong. Anger can be a good thing as it can help motivate you to accomplish a task that is deemed to be a great challenge to you. Anger is a mechanism that helps you to be able to express your negative emotions. But excessive anger can be disruptive and unhealthy. Anger could lead to destruction, violence or social disorders. Anger can impact our health by increasing blood pressure, stress, anxiety and changes in our body due to anger. Anger can stop you from thinking straight and make irrational choices and at the same time could bring harm to yourself.
In recent times we have seen an increase in anger and outburst in violence and misconduct. For most, anger is short-lived and can be resolved through time - helping us to continue with life as usual, but for some anger can become a major obstacle in life and if left untreated it could be disruptive, deadly and hard to function in society. Researchers think CBD may be a natural solution to anger and anger management.
The frequency and severity of anger disorders depends on each individual. Anger disorders force change in habits and personality. It often results in changes in behaviors. This becomes problematic with personal relationships, relationships with peers at work, social groups, spouses and family members.
Taking CBD in the form of CBD tinctures, vapes or capsules may be the fastest and most effective method in using CBD to help manage anger. CBD helps you to reduce anger, stress and anxiety, but a medical specialist would be able to help you locate the root cause of your anger issues. Though CBD can be a quick fix in calming your anger and regulating mood, but you should always seek medical help before things get out of hand.
Causes of Anger:
● Frustration: when one person feels frustrated or stuck in a situation that they cannot find a way out could lead to undesired circumstances.
● Fear: fear of being harm, threat or loss could fuel anger and fuel self perseverance response.
● Hurt: when we feel hurt emotionally or physically we often retaliate carelessly.
● Stress: stress at home or at work may cause someone to feel angry and lash out.
● Injustice: witnessing injustice upon oneself or others can cause frustration.
● Disappointment: when expectations are not met resulting in anger, frustration and hopelessness.
● Trauma: past experiences of trauma or abuse can trigger negative responses.
● Genetics: some people are prone to anger due to genetics.
● Chronic pain: chronic pain can bring discomfort, stress and anxiety which can result in lashing out and change in behavior.
● Insomnia and sleep orders: not getting enough sleep will lead to inability to process emotions properly.
Psychologists believe that anger may be caused by chemical imbalance. The brain has three neurotransmitters: dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine and they are responsible for controlling the nervous systems, reasoning, rationalizing, emotions, thinking, decision making, etc. We will be looking into how CBD can play a role in these three neurotransmitters.
CBD and Dopamine
Dopamine is responsible for movement, motivation and reward. CBD effects dopamine by breaking down anandamide which is a neurotransmitter related to dopamine and are for responsible for the likes of regulation of mood, appetite and processing pain. CBD is also directly involved with dopamine. It activates the 5-HT1A receptor which is responsible for regulating dopamine. By activating the receptor it increases the amount of dopamine in certain areas of the brain to effect on mood and motivation.
CBD and Epinephrine
Epinephrine is also known as adrenaline. It is a hormone and neurotransmitter released by the adrenal glands to response to stress. It is responsible for the "fight or flight" mechanism designed to help us during potentially dangerous situations.
CBD may have an effect on the body's stress response. It is thought that CBD can lower the amount of anxiety in stressful situations as CBD is able to activate the 5-HT1A receptor which is responsible to releasing stress hormones like epinephrine.
CBD and Norepinephrine
Norepinephrine also known as noradrenaline is a neurotransmitter that is also responsible for the "fight or flight" response. It is responsible in regulating heart rate, blood pressure and breathing.
Some studies have shown that CBD can affect norepinephrine by increasing the decision making and impulse control part of the brain. Researchers also believe that CBD can effect on norepinephrine release which can increase or decrease level of norepinephrine. For example, CBD can reduce norepinephrine release in response to stressful situations by being involved with controlling the anxiolytic effects or having the ability to reduce anxiety.
Bemindful that more research are needed on this matter and we are just at the beginning of understanding how CBD can affect our well-being. Anger is a very common emotion that everyone has to respond to, but if left unchecked it could turn into a major problem. Seek help and ask for advice from a professional medical provider if you think your anger is getting in the way of having a good meaningful life.
