Chronic Kidney Disease and the effects of CBD

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) or also known as Chronic Kidney Failure is classified as a gradual loss of kidney functions through time.

Your kidney filters waste and excess fluid from your blood then it is carried and passed through your urination. When you suffer from chronic kidney disease, your kidney cannot filter out fluids, electrolytes and waste in your body therefore it puts your body at great risk and could be life threatening.

CKD can be a factor that leads to high blood pressure, anemia, having poor nutrition, nerve damage and weakening bones.

When your kidney progresses into an advanced level it could lead to kidney failure that's when you will need dialysis or kidney transplant.

Interesting Facts About CKD:

The leading cause of death in people that suffer from CKD is heart disease.

37 million adults in the US suffer from CKD and millions more are at risk.

The earlier you get treated for CKD the higher chances to prevent progression of CKD.

Leading causes of Chronic Kidney Disease are:

  • High blood pressure

  • Diabetic

  • Kidney and urinary tracts abnormalities before birth

  • Glomerulonephritis

  • Autoimmune disease

CBD is the natural wonder that comes with abundance of health beneficial properties that are good for both the body and mind. Let's attempt to find out whether Cannabidiol or , can play a role in alleviating the symptoms of chronic kidney disease?

In a study published in Center For Advancing Health stated that researchers found there are CB1 and CB2 receptors in the kidneys meaning that cannabis like CBD can activate these receptors and may contain medicinal benefits to the kidneys.

Scientists compare the difference between pain medication like NSAID. Pain killers are metabolized by the liver and exit the body through the kidney while CBD is also metabolized by the liver but exits the body through the fecal matter. This means CBD is not processed by the kidney and does not cause damage to the kidney.

Experts believe that CBD can help the kidneys with:

  • Chronic pain management

  • Anti-inflammation

  • Reduce neuropathic pain

  • Relief nausea and vomiting

  • Improve anemia

  • Stop itchiness

  • Improve sleep and treat insomnia

  • Stress reliever and anti-anxiety

It's important to note that chronic pain, neuroprotective pain and inflammation is a common factor with kidney disease and experts believe CBD can be helpful for this. Currently more research is being done to understand the full potential of CBD and other cannabinoids.

So if you are experiencing any of the following you should make it a point to see your doctor as soon as possible.

  • If you have swollen ankle or feet

  • Muscle cramping at night

  • Have trouble sleeping

Puffiness around the eyes especially at night

  • Itchy skin

  • Feel the need to urinate more often at night

  • Poor appetite

  • Trouble concentrating

  • Having less energy and fatigueness

The sooner you know the more successful your treatment will be.
