Studies Show CBD Oil May Decrease Frequency and Severity of Seizures In Epilepsy Patients

During the Epilepsy Society 70th Annual Meeting, the researchers from University of Alabama at Birmingham presented their findings that CBD Oil can help decrease the frequency and severity of seizures in children and adults with severe intractable epilepsy.

The objective of the studies is to find out the safety and the tolerance level of CBD oil for patients with intractable epilepsy.

The CBD oil used was manufactured from a reputable pharmaceutical manufacturer with traces of THC and following the guidelines set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The CBD oil used was administered orally.

The study included 81 patients of which 42 were children and 39 adults. These patients were experiencing 4 or more seizures per month.

The research found that CBD led the way to a significant reduction in the frequency of seizures with the majority of the patients. About two third of patients experienced more than 50% reduction in the severity of seizures.

Researchers found that CBD oil had a positive effect on mood which is an independent by-product of CBD and a welcome effect that could assist patients with epilepsy as the symptoms the patient must experience can be life changing and very challenging.

Researchers found that the most effective dosage for both children and adults are between 20-25 mg/kg/day.

Researchers found that for some patients they were able to improve on controlling seizures. This is a positive sign for CBD as it can potentially have a positive congintive effects involving fMRI signal changes.

The studies also involve monitoring the interaction between CBD and other medications. It is reported that CBD may interfere with the enzymes of other medications which could alter the potency of the medication.

They found that electrical discharges that are measured by EKG machines drop significantly especially in children after the introduction of CBD and during regular ingestion of CBD.

Epilepsy patients showed to have more working memory that are associated with neural recruitment from using CBD that were measured by MRI imaging.

The results are very encouraging and a big push for CBD as a treatment for patients with epilepsy and for those looking into improving their physical and mental health.

It is important to always consult with your doctor first if you are interested in using CBD. Discuss the best kind of CBD product that will suit you best. CBD, today are available as tincture/oil, vaping oil, edibles, capsules, topical/balm, flowers or concentrates. You also get to choose whether you want your CBD products with THC or not. If you would like your CBD to be THC free then go for CBD Isolate, but if you like your CBD to include THC and other cannabinoids to ensure that your body experience the "entourage effect" then choose Full Spectrum CBD and Broad Spectrum CBD which is like full spectrum but does not include THC.
