THCA: Full Spectrum CBD Wouldn't Be Complete Without THCA

THCA: Full Spectrum CBD Wouldn't Be Complete Without THCA

If you are familiar with cannabis then you would know what THC is. THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is the chemical responsible for most of the psychoactive effects found in marijuana and cannabis products. THC is among the 100s of detected cannabinoids from the cannabis plant. THC works by interacting with receptors along your brain that is associated with thinking, pleasure, memory, perception and coordination. Another well known cannabinoid is CBD, a non psychoactive cannabinoid that comes with massive potential therapeutic benefits.

But today, we will be talking about another component that helps make up Full Spectrum CBD and that is THCA. What is it and why is it important?

THCA or Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid is the precursor of THC. When cannabis is growing it creates cannabinoids as carboxylic acid form. The carboxylic acid is then converted to non-acidic compounds through the process called decarboxylation.

Almost all cannabinoids start off as acidic form. But once they have been converted into non-acidic form the structure and effects have been altered too.

THCA can be abundantly found in natural cannabis. But keeping the compound intact is challenging. THCA outside of cannabis is very unstable and difficult to control. When exposed to light and heat it decarboxylates into THC.

THCA is non-psychoactive meaning it will not alter your mind or cause you to be intoxicated. THCA does not bind to the CB1 receptors so it will not present any psychoactive effects to your brain. On the other hand THC does bind heavily to your CB1 receptors and may cause you to feel "high" if used in high amounts.

The chemical structures of THCA prohibits it from binding with the CB receptors in the Endocannabinoid System along your body.

With lack of information and scientific data on THCA, we need more research to know its full potential medicinally. From what we know about this acidic cannabinoid it may be used to help with:

Treating chronic pain because it has anti-inflammatory properties

Stimulates appetite to help with eating disorders

Assist in treating insomnia

May contain anti-tumor benefits

May help reduce epilepsy symptoms and Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

There is still no concrete evidence on side effects for THCA. Some people think it may have the same side effects as with THC. So for people who are sensitive to THC then you can expect the same or similar reactions.

Common side effects that may appear in THCA are:

Dry mouth

Dizziness

Fatigue

Increased in heart rate
