What Can CBD Do For Hemophilia?

Understanding the Effects of CBD With Hemophilia

Today we will be discussing on how CBD can effect the blood disorder, hemophilia. First we need to know what is hemophilia and how it affects the body then we will discuss why people are starting to incorporate CBD as part of their treatment.

Hemophilia is a rare bleeding disorder.

Most of the time this is an inherited blood disorder. When you have hemophilia your blood is not able to clot properly, because the body cannot produce clotting proteins or clotting factors. When you have hemophilia you will bleed longer than usual during an injury or surgery.

Having small cuts is usually not a big issue, but when you have this blood disorder then it can be problematic.

Internal bleeding is worrisome for people with hemophilia as internal bleeding can damage tissues and organs hence it is life threatening.

The main treatment for hemophilia is known as replacement therapy: involves replacing missing or damaged clotting factors with concentrated clotting factor protein. This can help prevent bleeding and long-term joint damage. Other treatment includes Demospressin, a medication to stimulate the body to release clotting factors to stop bleeding. Antifibrinolytic, a medication to prevent breakdown of blood clots. Physical therapy to help improve joint functions and joint damages. Surgery maybe needed to fix joiny damage or internal bleeding. For the most part treatment for hemophilia is a life long reoccurrence and follow ups with your medical provider is recommended.

Symptoms include unexplainable and excessive bleeding from injuries, surgery or dental work. Numerous deep bruises. Pain, swelling and tightness in joint areas, blood in urine or stool, unexplainable nosebleeds, unexplainable bleeding after vacations and irritability in infants. See a doctor if your bleeding just won't stop from an injury. Swollen joints with massive hot sensation and too painful to bend. Most importantly if you notice signs or symptoms of bleeding in the brain.

How can CBD help with Hemophilia?

Though CBD may not be a recommended treatment option for hemophilia, there are a lot of people who are turning to CBD or are interested in using CBD to help alleviate symptoms of this blood disorder. Though CBD may not be able to directly treat hemophilia, it can be useful in dealing with the symptoms that come with hemophilia like: pain, inflammation, nausea, vomiting or seizures. The Hemophilia Federation of America (HFA) have claimed that joint disease is the most common complication of hemophilia. People that suffer from the blood disorder can have bleeding in joint areas which leads to massive pain and the possibility of chronic swelling and deformity. CBD will be able to manage chronic pain and have pain-relieving properties that will come to good use when dealing with joint pain. CBD has anti-inflammatory properties as proven in many studies with humans and animals. CBD can help lessen swollenness and inflammations that may occur in affected joint areas.

There is ongoing scientific research that concerns the interactions between CBD and the endocannabinoid in our body to come up with CBD-based anti-inflammatory medications.

People with hemophilia can have bleeding in and around the brain from an injury or without any known cause. If left untreated it can cause brain damage or death. When this happens they cause you to have persistent headaches, unable to pay attention, drowsiness, unconscious, trouble staying awake, vomiting and seizures. Good news is CBD can definitely help with some of these symptoms like reducing pain/chronic pain, helps to focus and stay motivated, regulate sleep/wake cycle, regulate mood, treat and control vomiting and nausea. CBD can also help alleviate symptoms of seizures. As a matter of fact the US FDA have already approved of a CBD-based medication for seizure, Epidiolex. However, there are scientific proof that shows that CBD can be an effective method is treating epilepsy syndromes like Dravet syndrome or Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) as these ailments does not respond to antiepileptic medication.

A study published in 2011 by the British Journal Pharmacology revealed that cannabidiol or CBD can suppress nausea and vomiting if used properly. CBD may also treat muscle spasms which is a form of neuropathic damage that may cause a lot of pain and can be associated with hemophilia.

It's important to remember that CBD is not a replacement for medication for treating hemophilia. Instead CBD should be viewed as a complementary treatment to use along with medications provided by medical providers. Always consult with your doctor if you are planning on using CBD first. CBD may interact with other medications and interfere with performance in some medications.
