What CBD Can Do For Schizophrenia?
According to the Mayo Clinic, schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder and patients with this condition appear to be disconnected from reality. People with this disorder experience disillusions, hallucinations and have disorganized thinking and speech patterns. Oftentimes people with schizophrenia are unable to live a normal life and find it difficult to go through their daily life like others do.
Scientists are not able to pinpoint the root cause of schizophrenia, but it is thought to be caused by genetics and environmental factors.
It's more likely that you may stand a chance to develop this disorder if there is a family history of schizophrenia and a person who has experienced trauma and abuse may be at a high risk of schizophrenia.
Common symptoms of schizophrenia includes:
Hallucinations: when you hear, feel or see things that are not real
Delusion: having false sense of belief and refusing to accept reasoning even when presented with facts.
Disorganized thinking: when having difficulty organizing thoughts and speech.
Abnormal motor behavior: having childlike silliness movements, unpredicted agitations or repetitive movement.
Negative symptoms: noticeable decrease in facial expressions, low motivations and being socially withdrawn.
Abnormal cognitive functions: lower attention span, having difficulty with memory, forgetful and having problems with decision making
Schizophrenia is a lifelong experience, but if treated it can help people manage the symptoms and help you be able to live a fully productive life.
Medications can help reduce hallucinations and disillusions while therapy can give you a coping mechanism.
It's important to understand that diagnosis should only be made by professional mental health provider, but if you suspect that
you or your family members may have symptoms of schizophrenia then it is essential that you seek professional help. A mental health professional can help assess your symptoms and provide treatment plans for you.
How Can CBD Help With Schizophrenia?
Currently there are ongoing research on CBD and its effect on schizophrenia. In a study published in 2012, researchers found that CBD is an effective treatment with the psychotic symptoms and acts as an antipsychotic medication. With a group of 39 patients that were admitted for psychotic episodes and given either CBD or amisulpride which is a type of antipsychotics medication. Those that took CBD had less side effects than amisulpride.
In 2020, researchers at King's College in London were using fMRI to examine brain activity with 29 participants that were diagnosed with psychosis. 13 were given single dose of CBD while 16 people were given placebo. The result showed that people who took CBD had similar brain activities like people who didn't have the mental disorder. This meant that CBD had a positive effect in changing the patterns of the brain for people suffering from psychosis and schizophrenia.
In addition as reported in Newswise that researchers have found that CBD may help increase the level of Anandamide in the brain. Anandamide is a neurotransmitter found the in Endocannabinoid System. The neurotransmitter stimulates happiness and mental wellbeing which potentially can assist in alleviating the symptoms of schizophrenia.
More studies are needed to understand how CBD can help treat schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. But if you are looking for a high quality and lab tested CBD product then give Mellow Organic a try.
