Why Does CBD Oil Come In Different Colors?
If you have had experience with trying different CBD oil products then you would have noticed that CBD oil does come in different colors. For example, Mellow Organic's Mellow 900mg CBD Oil made from CBD Isolate comes in clear color while our Mellow 1,800mg Full Spectrum CBD Oil has more of a golden yellowish color. CBD oil comes in different colors because of factors like type of extraction, carrier oil, extraction method and other ingredients that were added to CBD oil.
CBD products are made from three types of extract: CBD Isolate, Broad Spectrum and Full Spectrum. CBD Isolate is considered to be the purest as it contains only CBD and usually comes in clear or light yellow color. Broad Spectrum contains all the cannabinoids found in the hemp plant except for THC and usually comes in golden or light brown color. Full Spectrum contains all the cannabinoids including THC and other compounds from the hemp plant. The colors of CBD would be darker and range from golden to dark brown.
Carrier oil like MCT, hemp seed, olive or avocado oil are used with CBD oil. Mellow CBD Oil uses MCT oil as carrier. CBD oil absorbs better to your body system with carrier oil. CBD alone can have an unpleasant flavor and may have a thick consistency. When CBD is mixed with carrier oil like MCT oil it improves the taste and consistency. Carrier oil can help dilute CBD more effectively making dosage easier to manage. Do note that different carrier oils have different colors. CBD with MCT oil are typically clear and lighter in color while CBD with hemp seed oil may have a dark green color.
Extraction method that is used to extract CBD from hemp or cannabis plants affects the colors of CBD too. C02 extraction method is very clean and an effective extraction method that produces light color CBD oil while ethanol extraction is a more common method but can cause CBD oil to be darker in color.
Extra flavoring can also affect the color of CBD oil. If a CBD oil product that has vanilla flavoring may cause the CBD oil to have brownish color while CBD oil with peppermint flavor may have dark greenish color.
